Online Description
This one-hour awareness course introduces mental health professionals to the unique culture, experiences, and challenges of the first responder community. Participants will learn about the roles first responders serve, the stressors associated with their work, and the barriers they often face when seeking mental health treatment.

The training provides a high-level foundation for clinicians who currently work with, or hope to work with, first responders.

Learning Objectives:    

Better understand the work and unique culture of first responders

Better understand the stressors and barriers for first responders in seeking mental health treatment

Better understand some strategies to engage first responders and encourage them to maintain treatment

Continuing Education Credit: New York State LMHCs, LMSWs, LCSWs, and psychologists can receive continuing education credit (CEU) for this course though the Institute for Disaster Mental Health (IDMH) at SUNY New Paltz.
