Description:
The Family Assistance Center (FAC) is a subplan within the NTSB’s Mass Fatality Incident (MFI) response framework designed to coordinate family assistance following transportation
and criminal mass fatality events.

This course provides participants with the basic knowledge and considerations of a local mass fatalities plan, along with the skills, and abilities needed to prepare for and initiate a family assistance center. The curriculum is designed to create a framework for local authorities to develop family assistance centers based upon local capabilities and the needs of a mass fatality incident.

This course allows the opportunity for stakeholders to gain an understanding of the different  operational, logistical, and emotional demands that should be considered when activating a family assistance center.

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this course students will be able to:
• Describe the characteristics of a family assistance center

• Identify the roles and responsibilities of key players in a
family assistance center

• Describe the steps to initiate, operate, and demobilize a
family assistance center

• Identify key resources within their communities that they can
utilize in family assistance centers

Prerequisites:
There are no prerequisite requirements for this course.

Cost:
There is no fee for the course. Food, Lodging, and Transportation costs are the responsibility of the participant.

Completion:
Participants who actively participate and attend all course contact hours will receive a Certificate of Attendance for the course.
