Brief Description
Communications Exercise (COMMEX)
Full Description
A one-day communications exercise. During this exercise participants will be able to test their abilities with mitigating multiple types of communication failures and overcoming relatable public safety scenarios involving emergency communications. It will test participants communication skills as well an individuals’ critical thinking skills by injecting multiple change scenarios. The exercise will allow for the exercise and testing of emergency communications. This exercise promotes regional interaction and preparedness and provides an opportunity to test interoperable communications for the surrounding counties and agencies.

Any credentialed COMU Program personnel seeking to advance their Task Books or renew their credential(s) can utilize this exercise for completing their Continuing Education Requirements necessary to renew their credential(s).

The exercise is designed and facilitated by the NYS Division of Homeland Security & Emergency Services Office of Interoperable & Emergency Communications and the Western New York Interoperable Communications Consortium.

Target Audience:
Public Safety Communication Officers and Personnel (Fire, Police, EMS), Communications Unit Personnel, Emergency Management Officials, Federal, State, and Local Partner Representatives.

(OIEC) If you have multiple PTB's initiated, which PTB is the priority for you to complete?
If you are currently and actively credentialed in the COMU Program are you willing to participate as an Evaluator and/or Controller during the exercise?

Do you have agency approval to attend training?
Have you completed a communication(s) course offered by the NYS COMU Program?

Individuals must answer all questions in the registration form on the DHSES LMS portal with correct and up to date information.

Registration:
All student registrations will be reviewed by the OIEC and Erie DHSES offering coordinators with approvals sent to students NO LATER THAN 2 weeks prior to the start of the class. Registration does not guarantee a seat in the exercise.

Cost:
There is NO FEE for this course. Lunch will NOT be provided. Travel and all meals are the responsibility of the participant.

Lodging will NOT be provided.
