Description:
Is your campus prepared? This course trains higher education campus and community members, and others involved in crisis management duties and responsibilities to effectively manage a crisis by applying a whole community approach. Risk management strategies, effective crisis communication, and a series of well-developed plans as described in the National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) are emphasized. The course utilizes case studies and activities to aid participants in recognizing potential gaps in their current crisis management program and concludes with a practical application, simulated role-play exercise.

Course Objectives:
Effectively manage a critical incident by applying and implementing an all-hazards, multi-disciplinary, command and management team approach as described in the National Incident Management System’s (NIMS) Incident Command System. This course is going to cover the following topics:

-Events and Incidents at Institutions of Higher Education
-Challenges to Stakeholder Relationships at Institutions of Higher Education
-Prevention and Protection at Institutions of Higher Education
-Recognizing Risk affecting Institutions of Higher Education
-Mitigation at Institutions of Higher Education
-Crisis Communication
-Managing the Response
-Recovery at Institutions of Higher Education
-Simulated Incident Management Team at an Institution of Higher Education


Prerequisite:
You must be a US Citizen to take this course. If you are not please let us know by email for further instruction at: OEM.TRAINING@DHSES.NY.GOV

All participants must have a FEMA Student Identification (FEMA SID) number. Students can search for their existing/create a new FEMA SID at: https://cdp.dhs.gov/femasid/.

Any and all other prerequisite requirements will be managed by the consortium provider. If any additional prerequisites are required as part of the enrollment process the consortium partner will contact you directly prior to the course.

Cost:
There is no fee for the course. Food, lodging & transportation costs are the responsibility
of the participant.

Completion:  
Participants who actively participate attend all course contact hours will receive a Certificate of Attendance for the course.
