Course Description
The NYS Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES) is excited to announce its first regional delivery of the UAS Operator Course this October in Nassau County.

The UAS Operator Course is a combined ground and flight school designed to prepare students to safely and effectively manage and conduct UAS operations. The instructional team will work with students to connect statewide and national policies and best practices and apply this knowledge to a variety of mission areas. This course includes classroom, skill, and scenario-based activities.

Interested candidates for this course must have their FAA Part 107 certification at the point of registration, please refer to the “Audience” section of this announcement for further details.
During this course, students will first operate the Syma X5C trainer platform that will be provided by DHSES and then advance to the agency aircraft your organization is required to provide for the course.

Course Topics
This course includes legal and ethical UAS operations, flight authorizations, crew resource management, pre-flight decision making, risk analysis, mission planning, record keeping, photography and video, practical flight exercises and scenario-based activities.

Course Provider
This training opportunity is provided by a team of instructors from DHSES, Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office, the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), the New York State Police (NYSP), and NUAIR.

Cost
There is NO FEE for this course. Lunch will be provided. Travel and all other meals are the responsibility of the course participant.

Audience
Participants must be first responders or other public safety officials whose participation is sponsored by their agency and whose focus is on gaining training and experience to perform their duties at their agency. Upon completion, participants are expected to assist with instruction on future regional course offerings in this region.

Interested candidates for this course must have their FAA Part 107 certification at the point of registration for this course.

Attendees are required to bring their own Remote ID equipped quadcopter style UAS, capable of at least 15 minutes of flight time, and equipped with a camera. Additional UAS batteries and a battery charger are also required. This information will be captured during the registration process in our

Learning Management System (LMS).
This course is limited to 12 students. The New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES) reserves the right to determine eligibility for this course.

Registration Process
All student registrations will be reviewed by DHSES with approvals sent to students no later than two weeks prior to the start of the class. Registration does not guarantee a seat in the class. If you are accepted into the course, you will receive a confirmation email from DHSES.
