Description:
The Preventive Radiological/Nuclear Detection (PRND) Maritime Course, enables personnel, assigned to radiation detection Primary Screener duties, to detect radiation, verify radiation alarms, localize the source of radiation, and measure detected radioactive material with increased range and sensitivity using a (PRD), Backpack and a boat-mounted, standoff radiological/nuclear detection system. Host agencies may elect to supply radioactive materials during the class to enhance the learning experience. These sources are intended to simulate the types of radioactive material that the Primary Screener may encounter in the public domain.

Cost:
There is no fee for the course. Food, lodging & transportation costs are the responsibility of the participant.

Completion:  
Participants, who actively participate, attend all course contact hours and pass a written test will receive a Certificate of Completion for the course.




Course Objectives:
-Identify the Preventive Radiological/Nuclear Detection (PRND) mission and the role of National
Incident Management System (NIMS) typed maritime detection teams.
-Demonstrate the ability to operate Preventive Radiological/Nuclear Detection (PRND)
equipment in a maritime environment.
-Identify the role of the Primary/Secondary Screener and the assessment of alarms.
-Identify operational factors that may impact maritime Preventive Radiological/Nuclear
Detection (PRND) operations.
-Summarize the critical tasks involved in PRND maritime operations.
-Demonstrate collaborative maritime operation drills.

Prerequisites:
-Basic operational understanding of small boars and/or part of a maritime team
-Primary Screener/Personal Radiation Detector (PRD) Basic Training
-Basic Understanding of the Radiological Nuclear Detection Mission
-You must be a US Citizen to take this course. If you are not please let us know by email for
further instruction at OEM.TRAINING@DHSES.NY.GOV
-All participants must have a FEMA Student Identification (FEMA SID) number. Students can
search for their existing/create a new FEMA SID at: https://cdp.dhs.gov/femasid/.

Any and all other prerequisite requirements will be managed by the consortium provider. If any additional prerequisites are required as part of the enrollment process the consortium partner will contact you directly prior to the course.
