Course Description
This course uses a series of drills to reinforce the skills of first responders previously trained to use radiation detection instruments. This will serve as the capstone of the week of radiological detection training at the State Preparedness Training Center (SPTC).

Audience
The target audience for this course is Law Enforcement, Fire Service, Hazardous Materials (HazMat),Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Public Works, and other response personnel assigned to duties employing a RIID. Attendees and/or their agency must have a Radiation Detection/Identification Program in place that requires this training. The New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES) reserves the right to determine eligibility for this course.

Radioactive Source Disclaimer
Low level radioactive materials will be used as training aids during the course. It is designed and
monitored so participants receive only minor radiation doses (lower than a chest X-ray or typical roundtrip airline flight across the U.S.).

Compliance
This course complies with ANSI N42.37-2006, “American National Standard for Training Requirements for Homeland Security Purposes Using Radiation Detector Instrumentation for Interdiction and Prevention.”

This training opportunity is provided by a team of instructors from the Center for Rad/Nuc Training (CTOS) at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS).
