Is your campus prepared? This course trains campus administrators and managers, public safety and law enforcement personnel, and other campus and community response partners to effectively manage critical incidents by applying and implementing an all-hazards,                       multi-disciplinary, command, and management team approach as described in the National Incident Management System’s (NIMS) Incident Command System (ICS) and Multi-Agency Coordination Systems (MACS). The course places specific emphasis on the unique aspects of responding to critical incidents on higher education institution campuses and concludes with a role-play exercise.

Course Objectives:
Effectively manage a critical incident by applying and implementing an all-hazards, multi-disciplinary, command and management team approach as described in the National Incident Management System’s (NIMS) Incident Command System. To reach this objective participants will be able to:

-Analyze a case of an actual incident to identify and discuss incident management considerations that need to be addressed in a disaster affecting higher education institutions.
Identify the roles, responsibilities and relationships of key stakeholders in the management and coordination of an incident.
-Recognize and discuss the components of emergency management preparedness and prevention.
-Identify strategic issues and considerations that should be taken into account during the initial response phase, including changes required in decision making and leadership strategies.
-Identify the fundamental roles and apply the functions of the Incident Command System (ICS) as defined by the National Incident Management System.
-Discuss the role of the campus and community Emergency Operations Centers and how they relate to the Multi-Agency Coordination System.

Campus Public Safety, Emergency Management, Emergency Operations Center Staff, Campus Administration, Athletic Departments, Operators of Large Venues, Campus Environmental Health & Safety, Public Works, Student Life/Affairs, Local & State Emergency Management Agencies, Fire Service, EMS, Local, State, Tribal and Federal Law Enforcement, Local Elected Officials, Public Health Organizations and Local Hospitals

Prerequisite:
You must be a US Citizen to take this course. If you are not please let us know by email for further instruction at: OEM.TRAINING@DHSES.NY.GOV

All participants must have a FEMA Student Identification (FEMA SID) number. Students can search for their existing/create a new FEMA SID at: https://cdp.dhs.gov/femasid/.

Cost:
There is no fee for the course. Food, lodging & transportation costs are the responsibility
of the participant.

Completion:  
Participants who actively participate attend all course contact hours will receive a Certificate of Attendance for the course.
