Course Description
This 40 hour course will address the fundamental needs of a successful hostage negotiator. The course will prepare students to handle a variety of crisis situations, including hostage takers, barricaded subjects, and potential suicide victims.  Students who successfully complete this course will receive a formal certification from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Course Methodologies
This course will consist of lecture, open discussion, demonstration, and practical exercises.  

Audience
This course is designed for Law Enforcement officials that are assigned (or will be) assigned to their agencies’ Crisis Negotiation or Hostage Negotiation Team.  All interested candidates must be U.S. citizens or have prior approval from the FBI to attend. The FBI and the NYS Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES) reserve the right to determine eligibility for this course. A 100% identification check will be conducted upon arrival at the training facility.

There is NO FEE for this course. Lunch will be provided. Travel and all other meals are the responsibility of the course participant.

No Show Policy
Failure to attend a class you have registered for can result in restriction on future course attendance and agency notification.  

Lodging
Lodging will be provided for participating State and Local responders.

You are eligible for lodging if your residence and official work station are more than 50 miles from the SPTC and you a State or Local responder.  Lodging is not available for federal employees or private industry participants. You must be enrolled in the course and have received lodging confirmation from the SPTC before arriving at the Center, or your lodging will not be covered and you will not be allowed in the class.
