Description:
The purpose of the Crisis Management for School-Based Incidents – Partnering Rural Law Enforcement, First Responders, and Local School Systems course is to educate rural law enforcement personnel as well as school administrators and personnel on the elements that must be in place to effectively respond to an emergency at a school building or an entire school system.

Objectives:
-Will be able to state the course purpose, goals and objectives, explain how law enforcement
personnel and school staff need to work collaboratively to prepare for and respond to        
school- based crisis events.
-Should attain recognizable skills and terminology relevant to school emergency planning and
can describe some basic security and safety risks found in schools.
-Will be able to identify many of the different types of threats to schools and the levels of
motivation by potential perpetrators’ capabilities, and modes of operation.
-Can identify and distinguish various response protocols used by schools and law enforcement
as well as describe some of the devices used to instigate a school emergency incident.
-Participants will be able to explain the basic law enforcement expectations of the school and
rural law enforcement will be able to explain the roles and responsibilities of their school
partners regarding incident recovery to efficiently and effectively return the school and
community to normal operation while maintaining a high-level of safety and accountability.

Prerequisites:
-You must be a US Citizen to take this course. If you are not please let us know by email for further instruction at OEM.TRAINING@DHSES.NY.GOV

-All participants must have a FEMA Student Identification (FEMA SID) number. Students can search for their existing/create a new FEMA SID at: https://cdp.dhs.gov/femasid/

Any and all other prerequisite requirements will be managed by the consortium provider. If any additional prerequisites are required as part of the enrollment process the consortium partner will contact you directly prior to the course.

Recommended Prerequisites:
-IS0100: An Introduction the the Incident Command  System
-IS0200: Basic Incident Command System for  Initial Response
-IS0700: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System
-IS0800: National Response Framework, An Introduction

Any and all other prerequisite requirements will be managed by the consortium provider. If any additional prerequisites are required as part of the enrollment process the consortium partner will contact you directly prior to the course.

Cost: There is no fee for the course. Food, lodging & transportation costs are the responsibility of the participant.

Completion: Participants who actively participate and attend all course contact hours will receive a Certificate of Attendance for the course.
