Description:
This course provides educators, administrators and personnel working in school environments with the knowledge and skills  necessary to perform critical life-saving actions in the immediate aftermath of a bombing incident. Educators are presented with  lectures, discussions, and demonstrations on the hazards and   injuries associated with bombings; these activities culminate in a series of performance-based exercises designed to allow course participants to practice live-saving tactics, techniques, and procedures in bombing scenarios.

Course Objectives:
-Recognize the continued need for the application of life-saving techniques and interventions immediately after a school bombing incident.
-Describe the physical characteristics and injuries associated with an explosion and general safety guidelines when encountering these incidents.
-Recognize the tactics and techniques necessary to safely respond in the immediate aftermath of a school bombing and conduct life-saving treatment to mitigate the effects of blast Injuries and loss of life.
-Recognize treatable blast injuries in the immediate aftermath of a school bombing and the correct treatment options (tourniquets, pressure dressings, and hemorrhage control) and application methods.

Prerequisites:
You must be a US Citizen to take this course. If you are not, please let us know by email for further instruction at OEM.TRAINING@DHSES.NY.GOV

All participants must have a FEMA Student Identification (FEMA SID) number. Students can search for their existing/create a new FEMA SID at: https://cdp.dhs.gov/femasid/

Cost:
There is no fee for the course. Other cost considerations are detailed in each LMS course offering.

Completion:
Participants who actively participate and attend all course contact hours will receive a Certificate of Attendance for the course.
