Description:
The Disaster Preparedness for Healthcare Organizations Within The Community Infrastructure course provides information specific to healthcare organizations vulnerability to a disaster. During this FEMA sponsored course, participants will be introduced to the various natural, technological, and civil hazards to which healthcare organizations may be vulnerable and the potential impacts of those hazards.

Federal guidelines and legislation that serve to aid in the preparedness for, and response to, incidents involving these hazards are discussed, as are current emergency management standards for the healthcare community. Participants review response and recovery issues that should be addressed by medical facilities and organizations in preparation for a large-scale incident, including identification of critical resources necessary for response and recovery.

Objectives:
At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:
-Discuss threats to hospital infrastructure preparedness.
-Discuss the fundamentals of preparedness.
-Discuss the development of hospital emergency plans.
-Discuss preparation for the recovery phase of a large scale disaster event.
-Assess the preparedness levels of their healthcare facilities/organizations using medical surge as a model.

Prerequisites:  
You must be a US Citizen to take this course. If you are not a U.S. citizen, please e-mail oem.training@dhses.ny.gov for further instructions.

All participants must have a FEMA Student Identification (FEMA SID) number. Students can search for their existing/create a new FEMA SID at: https://cdp.dhs.gov/femasid/.

Participants are encouraged to take the online courses IS 100, IS 700.A, and IS 800 at http://training.fema.gov/IS/NIMS.asp before attending this course.

Any and all other prerequisite requirements will be managed by the consortium provider. If any additional prerequisites are required as part of the enrollment process the consortium partner will contact you directly prior to the course.

Cost: There is no fee for the course. Food, lodging & transportation costs are the responsibility of the participant.

Completion:  Participants who actively participate and attend all course contact hours will receive a Certificate of Attendance for the course.
