Full Description
The Law Enforcement Active Shooter Emergency Response (LASER) course uses a mixture of classroom presentations, hands-on field training, and practical exercises to enhance the response capabilities of law enforcement officers in order to effectively respond to and stop an active shooter incident. This class aims to provide participants with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to rapidly deploy and neutralize violent offenders during active shooter incidents in order to prevent the loss of innocent lives.

Course Objectives:
- Apply risk-based decision making with a thorough understanding of management considerations in an active shooter event.

- Move effectively towards an active shooter.

- Demonstrate tactically sound techniques to engage an active shooter.

- Effectively process a room during a simulated active shooter  incident.

- Enter a room or building through a locked door or window using the fastest and safest method during an active shooter incident.

- Use direct threat care to manage emergency bleeding during an active shooter incident.

- Eliminate threats in a simulated active shooter incident using critical thinking and risk-based decision-making.

- Complete a comprehensive post-test and course evaluation.

Prerequisites:
- You must be a US Citizen to take this course. If you are not please let us know by email for further instruction at OEM.TRAINING@DHSES.NY.GOV

Cost:
- There is no fee for the course. Other cost considerations are detailed in each LMS course offering

Course Completion:
- Participants who actively participate, attend all course contact hours and pass a written test will receive a certificate of completion for the course
