FIRE OFFICER I (NFPA 1021-2020 ED) w/FSTFAC
Full Description
This is the first course in the Fire Officer series, addressing the job performance
requirements of Chapter 4 of NFPA 1021, Standard for Fire Officer Professional
Qualifications. This course includes topics such as the company officer’s duties and
responsibilities, leadership and supervision, human resources management,
communications, administrative functions, and health and safety issues. Also included in
this course are topics including company level training, community relations, pre-incident
surveys, and the delivery of emergency services. Students completing this course will
also receive a course completion for the Fireground Strategy and Tactics for First
Arriving Companies course, which is included in its entirety as part of this course.
The Fireground Strategy and Tactics for First Arriving Companies course focuses on
scene size-up, engine company operations, truck company operations, as well as
non-fire emergencies.

Prerequisites: All students enrolling in the New York State Fire Officer I course
must provide proof of completion of any one of the following New York State
Office of Fire Prevention and Control courses that includes Firefighter I, Basic
Firefighter Training, Essentials of Firefighting, Basic Exterior Firefighting Operations,
or Scene Support Operations.

Attendance: Students are expected to be in attendance for all class sessions for each
Fire Officer I course completion. In the event a student misses a classroom session, the
instructor will assign the student a chapter homework assignment to be completed for the
classroom session missed.

Any course quizzes and activities (individual or group) within the respective missed unit,
shall be completed by the student.

Two or more missed classroom sessions  requires the student to be dropped from the course.

Computer Use: This course uses the ResourceOne learning management system
(LMS). Students have access to a variety of course materials through the ResourceOne
LMS.

In addition, you are required to bring a laptop computer or tablet that has the capability to
use Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Adobe for PDFs in completing activities.
Students are asked to be respectful of the instructors, and other students, and limit
their computer usage to course materials during instructional time. Students
that are unable to refrain from non-course usage may, solely at the instructor’s
discretion, be asked to close and/or turn off their computer and to use it only when
necessary.
