Full Description: Description:
This course addresses specific fundamentals and skills associated with an emergency response to a WMD incident. As such, it provides detailed technical information and includes hands-on practice of actions required of emergency responders in such situations.
Participants are provided the opportunity to perform public safety sampling techniques required in the response to a WMD Event. Of special interest is the course’s emphasis on collecting forensically valid samples, which is accomplished through maintaining a secure chain-of-custody for the sample from the time of collection through laboratory analysis. This process is consistent with the FBI 12-step process for managing a crime scene, including those involving a WMD.

Course Objectives:
-Articulate the course purpose, goals and objectives and summarize how course materials can be
applied to meet public safety WMD response and sampling performance;
-Respond to potential WMD events in an organized and systematic manner and follow the logic of
various public safety processes and procedures;
-Identify basic sampling tactics, techniques and procedures and follow WMD sampling protocol;
-Perform various sampling techniques by selecting appropriate technique and equipment based
on incident conditions. Participants will also select proper labeling techniques and respond
appropriately to various HAZMAT incidents.

Prerequisite:

All participants must have a FEMA Student Identification (FEMA SID) number. Students can search for their existing/create a new FEMA SID at: https://cdp.dhs.gov/femasid/.

Cost: There is no fee for the course. Food, lodging & transportation costs are the responsibility of the participant.

Completion:
Participants who complete all components will receive a Certificate of Attendance for the course.
