Brief Description: Understand mental/behavioral health impact of pandemics & provide strategies to plan/respond.

Full Description: This performance level, virtual instructor-led training will provide participants with an understanding of the mental and behavioral health impacts that pandemics have on the community. The course will look at specific populations (such as health care, first responders, elderly, and children) and how the impacts to them may differ. The course will also present strategies for planning for and responding to mental and behavioral health impacts from a pandemic to help build resilience. Finally, information on communications and information sharing will be presented regarding mental and behavioral health impacts from a pandemic.

Course Objectives
This performance level, virtual instructor-led training will provide participants with an understanding of the mental and behavioral health impacts that pandemics have on the community.

By the end of the course, all participants will be able to fulfill the following learning objectives:

1.  Recognize the mental and behavioral health impacts to a population during a natural disaster or pandemic.
2.  Identify mitigation strategies to counter mental and behavioral health impacts during a natural or human-made disaster or pandemic.
3.  Identify resources available to respond to mental and behavioral health impacts to individuals and populations during a pandemic and other disasters.
4.  Practice coordination and communication in order to access mental and behavioral health resources.

Prerequisites:
1.  You must be a US Citizen to take this course.  If you are not, please let us know by email for further instruction at OEM.TRAINING@DHSES.NY.GOV
2.  All participants must have a FEMA Student Identification (FEMA SID) number.  Students can search for their existing/create a new FEMA SID at: https:cdp.dhs.gov/femasid/

Cost:
There is no fee for the course.  Food, lodging & transportation costs are the responsibility of the participant.

Completion:
Participants who actively participate and attend all course contact hours will receive a Certificate of Attendance for the course.
