Brief Description
Advanced Crisis Negotiation Course (ACNC)
Full Description
Course Description
The role of certified, experienced, and well-trained law enforcement crisis negotiators is more important now than ever.  The threat environment is increasingly complex - Law enforcement agencies routinely face calls for service that necessitate the unique skillsets that crisis negotiators provide.  This complexity, coupled with increased emphasis on the de-escalation of incidents within the State’s law enforcement community, means that the services of crisis negotiators are in high demand.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) each provide a 40 hour “Basic Crisis Negotiation Course” that serves as the foundational training course for crisis negotiators. This “Advanced Crisis Negotiation Course” (ACNC) fills a critical need for additional training for current negotiators based on real-world incidents.

Course Topics
The ACNC is a scenario-based course structured around six core scenarios that each team of negotiators will rotate through.  The course also includes a review of recent case studies and legal updates for crisis negotiators.

Course Provider
This training opportunity is provided by the State Preparedness Training Center (SPTC), in conjunction with key partners from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the New York State Police (NYSP), the Yonkers Police Department, the Troy Police Department, and the NYS Association of Hostage Negotiators (AHN).
