Description:
Disaster Recovery is a complex, costly, and potentially lengthy process. Depending on the scope of a disaster, recovery efforts can last years and cost millions of dollars. Planning has a direct positive impact on a community’s ability to recover from disasters. Planning for disaster recovery before disasters occur can significantly speed up and facilitate the post-disaster recovery process.
Community Planning for Disaster Recovery is an eight-hour awareness-level course that provides facilitated discussions on key concepts for disaster recovery planning, including the benefits of pre-disaster planning, key elements, and the plan development process.  This course will prepare participants to initiate disaster recovery plans and participate in the long-term recovery planning process in their own communities through the review of case studies and existing disaster recovery plans.

Course Objectives:
-Describe the key concepts of disaster recover planning
-Identify the roles and capabilities of various partner organizations involved in disaster recovery
-Evaluate and critique a sample disaster recovery plan
-Identify the steps involved in developing a disaster recovery plan

Target Audience:
Government Administrative, Emergency Management, Public Works, Public Health, Transportation, Citizen/Community Volunteer

Prerequisite:
You must be a US Citizen to take this course. If you are not a U.S. citizen, please e-mail oem.training@dhses.ny.gov for further instructions.

The student needs to establish a FEMA Student Identification Number (SID). This can be accomplished by registering at FEMA’s website.

Cost:
There is no fee for the course. Food, lodging & transportation costs are the responsibility of the participant

Completion:  
Participants, who actively participate, attend all course contact hours and pass a written test will receive a Certificate of Completion for the course.
