Full Description: Course Description
Designed to present the core elements of a comprehensive, systematic and multi-component crisis intervention curriculum, the Group Crisis Intervention course will prepare participants to understand a wide range of crisis intervention services.

Fundamentals of Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) will be outlined and participants will leave with the knowledge and tools to provide several group crisis interventions, specifically demobilizations, defusings and the Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD). The need for appropriate follow-up services and referrals when necessary will also be discussed.

This course will address the following topics:

• Relevant research findings
• Relevant recommendations for practice
• Incident assessment
• Strategic intervention planning
• “Resistance, resilience, recovery” continuum
• Large group crisis interventions
• Small group crisis interventions
• Adverse outcome associated with crisis intervention
• Reducing risks
• Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD)

Course Provider
This course was developed by the International Crisis Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF), and will be provided by an instructor from ICISF.

Cost
There is NO fee for this course.  Lunch will be provided.  Travel and all other meals are the responsibility of the course participant.

March 27th-28th, 2024:  Check In (8:00am-8:30am), Course (8:30am-4:30pm)

Target Audience
This course is designed for public safety officials who currently support (or will support) their agency’s Peer Support Team.  Interested candidates must register for both this course (Group Crisis Intervention on March 27-28) and the Assisting Individuals in Crisis course that will be conducted at the SPTC on March 25-26.

This course is limited to 25 students.  Interested candidates must provide a letter of support from their agency during the registration process.  This letter of support must be attached in the DHSES Learning Management System (LMS).  Please note that one letter can be utilized to demonstrate agency support for a candidate taking both courses (Assisting Individuals in Crisis, Group Crisis Intervention).

The New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES) reserves the right to determine eligibility for this course.

No Show Policy
Failure to attend a class you have registered for can result in restrict on future course attendance and agency notification.

Lodging
Lodging will be provided the nights of March 26 and 27, 2024 for participating public sector personnel.

You are eligible for lodging if your residence and official work station are more than 50 miles from the SPTC and you are a state or local responder.  Lodging is not available for federal employees or private sector participants.  You must be enrolled in the course and have received lodging confirmation from the SPTC before arriving at the Center, or your lodging will not be covered, and you will not be allowed in the class.
