Course Description
This course provides first responders and emergency managers with the knowledge and tools necessary to detect, identify, track, assess, respond and report Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) activity. Participants are presented with information on the current UAS terrorist and criminal threat, technology, and analog and electronic detection techniques. Participants are guided through demonstrations and exercises on the varying UAS types, their capabilities, and simulated threats involving Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

Course Objectives
• Recognize UAS uses and components
• Recognize the threat posed by the criminal and terrorist use of commercially available UAS
technology.
• Identify Counter-UAS (CUAS) tactics available to emergency first responders.
• Recognize regulations, laws, and policies pertaining to the use of UAS.
• Discuss CUAS Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (TTPs) used throughout a case study.
• Identify TTPs to detect UAS activity using visual, audio or technological resources.
• Distinguish between types of UAS, payloads, and legal/safe operations.
• Recognize effective methods to track UAS activity and communicate to appropriate authorities.
• Assess UAS activity and recommend response options and considerations
• Discuss response considerations to respond and deter unsafe, unauthorized, illegal, or terrorist UAS activity
• Understand evidence collection and reporting UAS activity to appropriate agencies

Course Provider
This course is provided by New Mexico Tech First Responder Training.

Audience
This course is open to a broad array of public safety stakeholders, including law enforcement, the fire service, emergency management, and public safety UAS pilots.  Security directors and managers are also invited to attend.  The New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES) reserves the right to determine eligibility for this course.

No Show Policy
Failure to attend a class you have registered for can result in restriction on future course attendance and agency notification.

Lodging
Lodging will be provided on the night prior to the class for participating State and Local responders.

You are eligible for lodging if your residence and official work station are more than 50 miles from the SPTC and you are a State or Local responder.  Lodging is not available for federal employees or private industry participants. You must be enrolled in the course and have received lodging confirmation from the SPTC before arriving at the Center, or your lodging will not be covered and you will not be allowed in the class.
