Description:
Disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes and floods can create enormous volumes of debris. Debris can hinder response and recovery efforts, cause costly delays, and pose significant logistical challenges. Debris management can be extremely complex, creating, testing, and training to a pre-disaster debris management plan specific to the area is key to successful operations.
This eight-hour management-level course will provide an overview of debris management and the debris management planning process.  The focus of the course will be to identify debris management plan components and best planning practices using existing plan examples and case studies and to draft an outline of a debris management plan. This course will empower participants to create pre-disaster debris management plans for their own communities.

Objectives:
-Explain the basic concepts of debris management operations and the benefits of debris management planning
-Outline the key components of a debris management plan
-Apply strategies for special considerations encountered during debris management operations to plan outlines

Emergency Management, Governmental Administrative, Hazardous Materials,  Public Health, Public Works, Security and Safety

Prerequisite:
You must be a US Citizen to take this course. If you are not a U.S. citizen please e-mail oem.training@dhses.ny.gov for further instructions.

All participants must have a FEMA Student Identification (FEMA SID) number. Students can search for their existing/create a new FEMA SID at: https://cdp.dhs.gov/femasid/.

Cost:
There is no fee for the course. Food, lodging, and transportation costs are the responsibility of the participant.

Completion:
Participants, who actively participate, attend all course contact hours and pass a written test will receive a Certificate of Completion for the course.
